REPORT OF THE SECRETARY, KAZIRANGA WILD LIFE SOCIETY FOR THE
YEAR 2008-09 PREPARED FOR THE 29th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ON 06.09.09
Respected President, Members of the Executive Committee and the members of Kaziranga Wildlife Society, I feel privileged to welcome you all to the 29' Annual General Meetting and present the annual report for the year 2008-09.
One year has passed since the last Annual General Meeting and Our membership strength has grown to 544 since then. New members who joined us after last A.G.M. are Sri Kali Prasad Buragohain, Sri Brijesh Poddar, Sri Umesh Ch. Borah, Mrs. Nilima Borah, Sri Dip Borthakur, Mrs. Arati Barthakur, Sri Sanjoy Agarwala, Sri Uzzal Borgohain, Sri Bhawarial Agarwala and Sri Swapan Nath. I cordially welcome all the new members and sincerely request their active participation to guide our society to a higher level. The activities of the society since the last general meeting are:
Greetings Cards: We printed 35,000 nos.of Greetings cards for 2009 and distributed about 25,000cards which brought a significant amount to the society's coffers. We sincerely thank our patrons for their supped.
Project at Kohora : Works of the project of Herbarium at Mahi Mid Research Centre is going on satisfactorily under the able guidance of Dr. Padmeswar Gogoi. More than 900 samples have aleady been collected and some of the samples have been processed to the finish. About 350 specimens from Deeper Beet has also been sent therefor processing. We received the second instalment of Rs. 1,36,000/- from NRL for continuation of the project.
Accounts : Accounting for the year 2008-09 is complete and would be placed before the general body for acceptance. We have tried to make the balace-sheet as transparent as possible.
World environment day: World environment day was observed by way of an essay competei at the National School, Benda, Guwahati. The topic was'Global Warming'. Cash prizes of Rs. 500/-,300/- and 200/-were given to the best three essays.
Kaziranga Elephant Festival : Like the previous years a few of our members from Guwahati along with our members from Kohora participated in the Kaziranga Elephant Festival. We donated a sum of Rs. 10000/-to the widow of a forest guard who was killed while discharging his duties at Kaziranga national park.
Birth Day Centinary of Dr.Robin Barred": Birth Day Centinary of Dr, Robin Banerjee the founder president of our society was celebrated in collaboration Win Vivekai Kendra at Golaghat on 12.08.09 with a day long programme. The following dignitaries participated in it: Sri Bijoy Krishna Handique, Hobble Union minister for Doner& Mines, Govt. of India, Smt Ajanta Neog, Hon'ble Cabinet Minister PWD, Govt. of Assam, Sri H. N. Bora, ]AS, Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat, Dr. Ajit Bandar, Chairman, Golaghat Development Authority and SBA. Balakrishnan, Vice President, Vivelkananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, besides a host of distinguished personalities. The society took responsibility of holding a state level essay competition for the occasion.
We arranged for transportation & repair of some boats of Pabitora Sanctuary as per request of the concerned D.F.O. wth a view to help them combat the flood situation. The expenditure of about Rs. 10,0001-was spentfor that project.
Before conclusion, I would like to offer my thanks to all the members and Well Wishers of Kaziranga Wildlife Society, and sincerely hope that with active participation of new dynamic members and infusion of new Ideas our society would scale new heights in our chooses field.
