
GUWAHATI: On the occasion of World Wetlands Day on Thursday, conservationists gathered at Cotton College here and sought better protection of wetlands in the state. The theme of the event, which was organized by the college, World Wildlife Fund, India, and Kaziranga Wildlife Society, was ‘Wetlands for Disaster Risk Reduction.’
Principal Nirada Devi inaugurated the event and said it would help students know more about the importance of wetland conservation. Associate professor of geography Pradip Sharma said, “Wetlands recharge groundwater, reduce floods and support many species.”
